Founded in AD 1727 by Sawai Jaisingh II, Jaipur is the
capital of Rajasthan and is popularly known as the Pink City
with broad avenues and spacious gardens.
Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 18th
century. The city was carefully planned and built according
to the ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. Apart from
being a diplomatic warrior, Jai Singh had interests in
astronomy. The amazing observatory, Jantar Mantar, was built
by him.
Jaipur is enveloped by rugged hills and enclosed within a
wall that has seven gates. Within these walls are some of
the finest examples of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.
The Old City is also known as the "Pink City" as the entire
city was painted pink on the orders of Maharaja Man Singh II
when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur in 1876, as pink is
the color of festivity in Jaipur.

Fly Away : Indian Airlines connect Jaipur with Delhi,
Jodhpur, Udaipur, Aurangabad, Bombay, Varanasi, Calcutta,
Ahmedabad.
On Tracks : Jaipur is connected by rail with Delhi, Agra,
Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Abu Road (Mount Abu), Udaipur, Bombay and
Sawai Madhopur.
On Wheels : Good motorable roads connect Jaipur with Delhi

Sightseeing Overview
Hawa Mahal

Built by Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal of Jaipur is a
multi-layered palace with a beehive structure Constructed in
1799, the palace was designed by Mr. Lal Chand. The
beautiful use of red and pink sand stones outlined with
delicate white borders and motifs are simply out of this
world. Overlooking one of Jaipur's main streets, it was
originally constructed for the females of the court so that
they can see the processions on the street overlooking the
mahal.
City Palace
Built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of
Rajputs, the City Palace of Jaipur or the main palace is a
perfect blend of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal
architecture. The vast palace complex occupies one seventh
of the walled city of Jaipur. built by , additions have been
made to the palace complex by many of his successors.
Amber Fort

Built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, Amber Palace is one of the
best example of Rajput architecture. Situated on the hill
top, Amber Palace commands extensive views over a deep
narrow valley and the wider plains beyond.The building was
finally completed in the early18th century when the threat
of Mughal domination was receding.
